Happy April Fools Day! You're probably thinking... why the heck is she saying congratulations?! I haven't done anything. But haven't you?! When was the last time you celebrated something you accomplished? Do you always just wait for big accomplishments like
Job promotion
Buying a new home
Getting married
Having children
Graduating
For me, I’ve been congratulating myself on my graduation!!
For the last year I have been attending the Institute of Integrative Nutrition to transition my career to an Integrative Nutrition Health & Wellness Coach. I am so proud of myself for showing up every single week no matter what was going on in my life. The year long journey was difficult, transformative and simply amazing! I also took on some Advanced Courses through IIN and have graduated from their Gut Health Course last month! I’m beyond excited to begin this new journey of guiding and empowering people to achieve their health and wellness goals! If you would like to learn more about what I’ve been up to and what I offer check out my website! www.feelgoodnourishment.com
But as far as congratulating ourselves, what about the small things?
What about that time you remembered to do something for yourself? Or the time you got caught up on that to do list of yours?
So often, many of us spend our days talking negatively to ourselves.
“I didn’t do this.” “I should’ve done that” “I wish I was this” “I wish I was this far along in my life”
But what would your life look like if you congratulated the small wins?
Going to work every day
Brushing your teeth
Choosing a healthy meal
Saying no to one processed food
Sitting down to meditate
Moving your body
Or hell...
Even getting out of bed some days
I’m not talking about just giving yourself a participation trophy but to actually acknowledge the ways you show up in life. The things you do for yourself and others.
As a society, I think we believe it’s egotistical to be proud of ourselves for something or to show gratitude towards ourselves. But this is actually the first stage of loving ourselves and truly being our friend.
Remember, the only person you will spend your entire life with 24/7 from start to finish is YOU!
So, instead of being your own worst critic and barrage your self with expectations and abuse, try to be your own best friend and show congratulations for the things you do.
“When we trade expectations for appreciation, our entire life changes” - Tony Robbins
So this month, let’s try to be more mindful of the way you speak to yourself. How can you stop your negative self talk in it's tracks and replace it with something you would say to your best friend, your loving spouse or your child.
Congratulate yourself!
I challenge you to make a list of just ONE thing you can congratulate yourself on EVERY SINGLE DAY! It can be as little as “I got out of bed this morning. YES!” Or “I checked off something on my to do list today!”
Ways you can congratulate yourself:
High five yourself
Pat yourself on the back
Put on a fun song and dance around the house
Make a sticky note reminding you how awesome you are!
Call a friend or family member and tell them how excited you are for completing something from your list
Treat yourself to a massage, facial or get your nails done
Take a nice walk in nature
Or even give yourself a pause and a nice little hand massage
The sky is the limit on how you can congratulate yourself!
I know some of these may seem a bit silly but in my opinion we are never too old to have fun and laugh with ourselves!
I’d love to hear about how you congratulate yourself! Send me your stories at amber@feelgoodnourishment.com.
